We finished our last day of kindergarten for 2010 by wishing everyone a Merry Christmas.  We also included well wishes for our friend, Will, to get better over break so that he can join us back in school!  I wish everyone a wonderful winter vacation and a happy and healthy start to 2011!

Elementary School Read-a-thon

This morning the AM kindergarten class participated in the Delano Elementary School Read-a-thon!  We started in the gym singing some songs and listening to a play performed by Mrs. Langton and Mr. Lahr.  We sang some more songs and then watched a dance-off between Mr. Brown and a 4th grade student.  Then, our class went to Mrs. Jensen's first grade classroom to play 4 corners.  We then traveled to a 4th grade teacher's room to hear a story and then to two other rooms in kindergarten, first or second grade.  We finished out our morning with a snack and some free choice!  I hope everyone have a very Merry Christmas and a wonderful winter vacation with your family and friends!

The Party Continues in the PM

This afternoon was just as fun as the morning!  We painted ornaments, made necklaces, mixed reindeer food, played bingo, colored Santa, threw snowballs into a wreath and tree, ate yummy cupcakes, and danced.  The afternoon group loved forming a train and dancing around the room!  Thank you to our volunteer mom as well as the morning moms for helping us out with our party!

AM Holiday Party was a Blast!

We had soooo much fun this morning at our holiday party!  We colored mugs, made reindeer food, made necklaces, played holiday bingo, colored Santa (and added our names to the good list), threw snowballs through a wreath and a tree, ate cupcakes, and danced!  It was a Blast!  Thank you so much to all the moms who helped plan and help with our holiday party!

Pajama Day

Half-Day kindergarten hosted a Pajama Party with our 4th Grade Buddies.  We watched some holiday stories and videos and ate our trail-mix snack.  Thanks for all those who sent in supplies for our trail mix.  We will have some to eat for a few days!

Before our buddies came down to our room we had time to finish up some holiday secrets and write letters to the Jolly Old Man himself - Santa!

The Amazing Little Porridge Pot vs. Strega Nona

Today we watched the story, Strega Nona on BookFlix.  After watching the story, we compared this story to The Amazing Little Porridge Pot that we read earlier this week.  We found that there were more similarities than differences.  After comparing the two stories, we sequenced how to make oatmeal.  We put our pictures in order and then followed our directions to make a delicious, warm snack on a cold winter day!

Hundreds Chart

At the end of our kindergarten time today, we colored all the numbers that we say when we count by 10s blue.  Students were encouraged to find a spot at home to hang their chart and practice counting by 10s everyday.  I also showed them how they could use the hundreds chart to solve addition problems such as 15+7.  They should put one finger on 15, and use their other finger to hop 7 boxes.  The box they land on is the answer (22).  Happy counting and adding!
